Formosa / Taiwan Taiwan is often called Formosa (an older name) when it comes to tea. The first tea plant, from the Fujian province, was planted about 200 years ago in the northern part of the island. Formosa is especially known for half-fermented tea, oolong, and is highly treasured by Chinese tea connoisseurs.
